One Year Later

A year ago today we found out we were pregnant with McKenna. I couldn't have asked for an easier pregnancy or delivery. We now have a very happy energetic three, almost four, month old. I am looking forward to what this next year will bring.

A Day in the Life

I love the idea of doing a few day in the life blogs, it is always nice to look back and remember how easy our days were.
So here is my day with a three year old and three month old.

At 6:30 Kevin wakes me up so I can exercise, while he gives McKenna her morning bottle.

8:00 it's tummy time for Kenna. Brooke wakes up around this time but it takes her about 30 minuets to wake up.  She then has breakfast. Mckenna has her second bottle at about 9 and goes down for her morning nap.(She usually doesn't nap until 10)

While McKenna naps I clean the house and play with Brooklyn, around 10 we start "School" this week we are working on shapes and differences. Also if I have a craft or project we will do that at this time too.

11:30 McKenna wakes up and has a bottle. Today out of the blue Brooke asked to feed McKenna. I love that she enjoys playing such an active role in her little sisters life

.At 12 its time for Brooke to eat lunch. More tummy/ play time for both girls. while I start baking cookies for our play date tomorrow. At 2 Mckenna has another bottle and both girls go down for a nap. this is when I take my free time to relax.

The finnished cookie :)

4:15 McKenna wakes up and plays while I try to get the cookies finnished. McKenna is such a cute happy little distraction.

Brooklyn wakes up and we watches Bambi while I feed and rock a cranky McKenna to sleep. Kevin calls an lets me know that he is getting off early (yay!!). He gets home around 7:30. I make dinner and he feeds the girls while I shower.

Around 8 I give Brooklyn a bath while Kevin takes McKenna and the dogs on a short walk. When they get home McKenna gets an oil treatment for her cradle cap and a bath.

She does NOT like bath time.

Kevin always likes to give McKenna her bed time bottle, after that Baby girl goes straight to bed for the night.

Brooke plays while McKenna is going to bed.
Kevin and I take turns reading Brooklyn a few books then it is time for her to go to bed.

Since McKenna has been born our days have been easer than I thought, both girls have a very easy go with the flow attitude (however with age Brooke is proving to be quite the little diva!) I am still shocked at how well we have been able to adjust with two kiddos.

Little toes

Guess who found her feet!

I love when she holds on to her feet and rolls around, it reminds me of a little Rollie-Polly.

Cradle cap

I started noticing that McKenna had flaky dry skin on her head in march, but didn't think much of it. At her checkup appointment for her ear infection McKenna's doctor noticed it and told me that she had a mild case of cradle cap.

It is caused by overactive sebaceous glands. It is not contagious it usually does not irritate infants.

As of right now its still mild and we are treating it by, washing her hair more often (to get rid of the extra oils) and by using an oil treatment. We use jojoba oil, all we do is rub it in to her scalp and wait 10 minuets and comb out her hair to loosen the dead skin then wash it out. I notice a dramatic difference after the very first treatment and McKenna LOVES having her hair brushed.

It usually clears up at around 6-12 months.

Mothers day 2012

Mothers Day 2012

Mothers Day craft

This year Kevin and I decided that we wanted to have family pictures done, as a gift for His mom. I don't think a week goes by when she doesn't ask for pictures of the girls :) and it has been a long time since every one has gotten together to take Pictures. Since it will still be a few week before we can even take the pictures, I wanted to give her something small on mothers day.

I found a frame at Walmart and had the extra paint and rhinestones.

I loved watching Brooklyn paint, she was very focused on doing it right and let me know when she was done with one color and wanted another. When it came to placing the rhinestones, she would place one and then move it around until she thought it was right. We may have a little artist on our hands.

Side sleeper

When I went in to get McKenna up from her nap I noticed that she was sleeping on her side. 5/5. Ever since then the only way she likes to sleep is on her side. When she gets tired of tummy time or sleeping on her back she will roll to her side and sleep.

First Dates

Kevin and I Officially met in April 2008.

Up until now I have been to embarrassed to tell the full story of how we met. I now know that it doesn't matter how me met, but that we met! And what better day than our 4 year "dating" anniversary to tell our story.

In March of 2008 I sent Kevin a friend request on Myspace...yep...I said it MYSPACE! I had thought Kevin was someone I had gone to school with.

A few days later I had a message, it was Kevin, asking who I was. Ha! I introduced myself and apologized for getting him and someone else mixed up. Our conversations grew from there and after a few weeks and tons of messages we exchanged numbers.

several LONG phone conversations later, we set up a day to meet in person (Dangerous I know!) All we had to go on were our myspace photos! This is what the looked like in April 2008;

We arranged to meet at the Dr. Pepper Fields, off Eldorado, in Frisco. Neither of us knew how to get there. On the way I got lost and after 45 minuets of Kevin trying to give me directions (he also did not know this area) I stopped at a gas station. Kevin told me to stay put and he would find me. Nether of us knowing what the other would be driving.

Getting board sitting in my car (and a little afraid I wouldn't have enough gas or money to make it home) I went in side to check the ATM. On my way out, a guy in a gray truck, rolled down his window and said;" I think I'm supposed to meet you" Real smooth Kevin! HA! lol  actually it was more of a shy/question.

We spent the rest of the night and well in to the next morning sitting in the gas station parking lot talking. It really was a great way to start an amazing relationship! On May 4th 2008. We started dating couple, even making it myspace official ;)
I LOVE YOU KEVIN! and I promise I'm not some 90 year old man! lol

Childrens verses

Just for a moment I want to talk about a subject that I rarely talk about, in fact I usually avoid posting my feelings about anything religious out of the fear that I might either offend someone or come off as overly preachy/ pushy. With that being said I would like to take a moment and talk about our children's bible verses.

During Sunday school last Sunday it was suggested that we find a verse for each of our children that is unique to them. Just sitting there immediately I knew which verse we would choose for Mckenna.

"From the fullness of grace we have received one blessing after another” - John 1:16

Just reading it I am reminded of my sweet smiling baby girl :)

Discovering a verse for Brooklyn was much harder. I wanted something unique, I wanted a verse that was more unknown or unpopular. However one very popular verse that pulls on my heart and keeps coming to mind when I think of Brooklyn. So much so that I know its meant for her. Ever since I first "pinned it" I thought of her when I read it.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart" -Jeremiah 1:5

God really did have a plan when he surprised us with Brooklyn. It has been a path of many blessing and more love than I had ever thought possible.

Three Months

McKenna is 24 1/4inches long (90th percentile) and 12.5lbs (50th percentile). She wears size 1 diapers, 0-3 month cloths, and very few 3-6month outfits. She eats 4oz every 3 hours but we are trying to work her up to 6oz.

  • she will sooth herself by sucking on her thumb or two middle fingers
  • cries real tears.
  • she is still a really happy smiley baby
  • reaching out and grabbing toys. she will even pick up and hold them (blankets, bibs toys, all end up in her mouth)
  • love sitting up more than lying down. We tried out her exercauser and loved it!! 4/3/10 She was still a little wobbly but she just stared and smiled at all the bright toys. She sits in it almost everyday now
  • Rolling over the first time. On 4/21 she has done it a three times since but is not very interested in the whole rolling thing yet, she will however scoot all over the place. In the morning when I go to get her she has scooted herself in to the corner of her bed.
  • Sleeps from 9-7 and sometimes 9-9
  • She does not nap for more than an hour (thanks big sister lol) but is almost never fussy.
  • She will follow me with her eyes when I move from side to side. it makes me feel important ;)
  • Found her hands, she will just sit there and study them. she is also starting to play with her feet.
  • Slept in her crib and without the swaddle 4/27 she has been sleeping in her room without her swaddle ever since. I was able to fight urge to go in and check on her, but slept with the monitor on my pillow.
  • when she gets exited she will smile, wave her arms, and kick her feet all at once.
