One Month

McKenna is 22 1/4 inches tall and weighs 10.2 pounds. She eats 4oz every 3-4 hours then she will stay awake for up to 2 hours looking around and "playing". She has grown out of all of her newborn onesies and sleepers and is wearing size 0-3mo sleepers and shirts but is still in newborn bottoms. McKenna loves riding in the car and almost instantly falls asleep. She love to rub her hair or hold our hands when she is tired. Kenna naps several times a day with one long four hour nap after 3pm. We still have no idea what color her eyes will be but they seem to be getting darker.

At two weeks old McKenna was diagnosed with Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) which is severe acid reflux. With us giving her Zantac twice a day, burping her every 2oz, and using Dr. Brown bottles with semilac sensitive formula, we are able to keep her from being in pain.

At one month McKenna can;
  • Pull small toys and blankets up to her mouth
  • Roll on to her side
  • Follow me with her eyes
  • Hold her head and shoulders up while on her tummy!!

First Smiles

On 2/28/12 (Just one day before her one month birthday) McKenna smiled for the first time!

I was getting ready to change her diaper and was talking in a high pitched voice when she looked straight at me and smiled. She continued to smile several more times when I would say " Hi Kenna" in a high pitched voice. Later McKenna smiled at Brooklyn when she was talking to her.

The pictures are from my phone so they are not the best but how often do you actually catch the first anything on camera! I couldn't pick just one picture.

McKena's very first real smile.

Looking right at mommy.

Brooklyn really had her going.

I'm absolutely in love with her smile!

Everyday Pictures

Because I am still in awe of my baby girl, I take a photo just about every day. I want to remember every moment!
Here are the pictures that don't fall int to a specific blog update...Tomorrow I will have a ONE MONTH OLD!! It's going by so fast.

Tummy Time

Monday we started tummy time with McKenna. I read that if you wait to long before starting tummy time babies can get frustrated and annoyed by it. McKenna Loves tummy time so far. She will stay awake looking around for an hour (or longer!) before falls asleep for a nap on her belly (with her knees tucked under her belly and her butt way up in the air, just like Brooklyn sleeps!)

Holding onto small toys at three weeks old.

Big sister Brooklyn helping out.
McKenna holding her head up at three weeks. She amazes me with all the things she can do already, as little as they may seem.

Whenever McKenna is awake and up for "playing" Brooklyn is never far away. Brooklyn is really enjoying showing things to and playing with McKenna. When Kenna cries Brooke will tell me " baby Kenna needs her bottle" or Brooke will put Kenna's pacifier back in her mouth.

Fire Station

On Tuesday our play group was invited to have a tour of the Rowlett fire station, The list filled up quickly, luckily Brooklyn was able to go. She was shy at first but after a while she loved it, although she was very confused as to why her uncle Josh wasn't there.
Brooklyn was able to get up inside the firetruck to look around, she even got to turn on the lights! She has been telling everyone about the fireman this week. Brooke has even invented a new game called FIRE where when she yells "FIRE" and we have to get up and run in circles then her car (The Firetruck) has to come put the fire out. We are still working on explaining that the firemen put the fire out not the truck. Ha!

Walking

In an attempt to slowly work myself back into an exercise routine Brooklyn, McKenna and I have been walking to a near by park, when the weather is nice. This way I get some light exercise and Brooke gets to play.

McKenna LOVES to walk, it is one of the few times she sleeps during the day without being in my arms.

Brooklyn and I have made a game out of walking. She finds all sorts of things, and then will tell me the story of how it got there. (My favorite so far is how an alligators dropped the rock in the puddle.)

We are very luck to have THREE parks with in walking distance from our house. Brooklyn's favorite park is at a near by school. She always wants to go down the BIG slide. She would do it all day if I let her.

Cousins

As I have said before "I love that Brooklyn has a cousin so close in age" Brooke and Eli are getting older and are able to play with each other more and more. They are so cute running around after each other!

The other day while at Nana's house I tried to get some pictures of them (They grow up way to fast) but as you can guess trying to catch two toddlers in a picture is almost impossible, I did get a FEW lucky shots.

Straw painting

Straw Painting

Especially with a new baby in the house it is important to continue playing games and finding new projects for Brooklyn and I to do together. I found the idea for this one on pinterest.

It is super simple, all you need is; Paint, Paper, and Straws.

Drop a few drops of paint on to the paper and let your child blow the paint around with the straw.

Brooke had a hard time blowing enough air through the straw to really do anything (we will try bigger straws next time) She chose to use the straw as a brush instead.

2 Weeks Old

Time seems to be flying by, Kenna is already 2 weeks old. So much has already changed.  At her doctors appointment she weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces (regaining all the weight she lost in those first few days!) and she was 21.5 inches long. SHE GREW A WHOLE INCH!!

  • While eating she rubs her hair or holds my hand.
  • McKenna can hold her head up for short spurts
  • Eat 3oz every 3-4 hours
  • Her umbilical cord stump fell off Feb 11th

Enjoying dads week off.

Relaxing around the house.

McKenna mostly wants to be held. She will lay in her Rock 'n Play soother for a nap but still dislikes her swing, bouncer and Pack 'n Play.
